About This Year's Ride

About This Year's 2020 Ride

500 miles in 4 days. Really. We're serious.
No SAG buses, no shortcuts.

  • Sat 5/9 – Leave 0900 from CMPD HQ in Charlotte, fully escorted by CMPD officers (traffic stopped along route) past I-485. Then continue on to Asheboro. Our arrival into Asheboro will be escorted by Asheboro PD. Total distance: 95 miles
  • Sun 5/10 – Leave Asheboro escorted by Asheboro PD and Randolph County Sheriff, our first rest stop of the day will be at the Victory Junction Gang Camp, a fabulous organization. The route then takes us to Greensboro, NC then to Gibsonville, NC where we will stop for lunch. On the town square is a memorial to their Police Chief who was killed in the line of duty on May 2, 1940. From Gibsonville we ride cross country to South Boston, VA. Total distance: 118 miles
  • Mon 5/11 – Leave South Boston, taking back country roads toward Richmond, VA. Along the way we pick up Bike Route 1, the bicycle equivalent of highway US1 up the East Coast. The second rest stop is at Timmy's (Home of the World Famous Timmy Dog, you'll have the opportunity to try one) in Victoria, VA. We continue on back roads until we pick up our escort - the last 30 miles into Richmond are escorted by Richmond and Chesterfield PDs and Chesterfield County Sheriff. Total distance: 136 miles
  • Tue 5/12 – Richmond to DC. Our route will be escorted out of Richmond, then we take back roads across the rolling VA countryside until we pick up an escort in Manassas VA - and ride the rest of the way into our nation's capital under escort. Total distance: 151 miles
  • Wed 5/13 - the morning is free for sightseeing in Washington, DC. In mid-afternoon we will gather together and walk to the National Mall to attend the Candlelight Vigil on Wednesday evening. This is an especially moving service that honors our fallen officers; it is the purpose of the entire trip.
  • Thu 5/14 – Return to CMPD HQ via charter bus (we would love to make it a round trip bicycle ride, but we just don't have time!)
